It's Nader Time Missed the first part, but I am watching the show. Nowhere near as good of a show as Paul or Palin's, but I like the fact that his podium is humble, that he has a gigantic brain and that there is zero budget involved in his rally. Personally, I think his rally is the one that makes me happiest to look at. Nader's cranky socialist lecture is nowhere near as pretty as Obama's glistening teleprompted speeches. On the other hand, he actually seems to be an incredibly sincere bore, rather than a masterful actor delivering his beautiful script like a champion. I am trying not to fall asleep, but Loki, my radical leftist husband, is entranced by the Ralph man. This is especially funny since, Loki was begging me to stop Barack Obama's DNC speech on account of Barry being a "professional bullshitter." Yes, I force my husband to listen to convention and rally speeches. I am such a kind wife.
Watch now, or view the archives here.
Me watching this, is payback for you, Loki. [Added] HOLY CRAP! Did Nader just state a militarily brilliant solution to how he would dealt with 9-11? Was the hot pursuit doctrine just uttered by the peacenik? He also just made an absolutely brilliant statement on law-enforcement training during political conventions. Um.. my ears are wide open now. [Added] Did Loki just tell me that he probably will vote for Ralph Nader because he is a brilliant military strategist, and Ron Paul is too much of a pacifist? This election cycle seriously is the Twilight Zone. (desperate for love?) |

The next person... ...who rants about how unmarried teenage parenting is somehow going to cause the end of Western Civilization, needs to shove their foot into their mouth as far as possible, and pull it out of their ass. Bristol Palin is going to be a teen mom and Barack Obama's mom was one. BIG FUCKING DEAL! Chances are, nothing bad will happen other than her kid growing up to be a well-off religious fundamendalist, just like Barack. It's not the end of the world. The next yokel who talks about how Sarah Palin is evil for daring to raise little children and be a VP, will need to apologize to Bill Clinton and Barack Obama for daring to raise young children as Presidential candidates. What about her husband, he can be the First Lady Mommy... err... First Gentleman Daddy too. A special apology will be owed to Biden, because he was a young single dad when he started his political career. People, if men are not going to be penalized for being fathers in public office, women should not be forced to deal with a separate set of rules. This is sexist! I don't care if Sarah Palin is pro-infibulation and made it mandatory for all women to read the Bible and wear skirts that go below the ankle, or face the penalty. We cannot as claim to be feminists, liberated or even civilized, if we think that it is perfectly acceptable to judge people according to two different sets of rules that rely on gender as the sole compass. If we're going to fight for gender equality (beyond just male and female, and not to be confused with gender sameness,) we need to do it for all women, regardless of whether you she is superfeminist, a Neo-nazi stormtropper, an 8-year old child bride, a cheap crackwhore, a movie star, the transsexual eagerly awaiting surgery, a soccer mom down the street, the cranky dyke down the corner, or a former beauty queen who knows how to exploit the sexist nature of the patriarchy for her political gain. We need to do it for EVERYONE -- even those who are not women! I still remember how horrible I felt when poor Chelsea got bitch-slapped for absolutely no other reason than going through puberty and because her parents were President and First Lady. Why in the hell does the media (liberal, moderate and conservative) or any civilized person, think that it is acceptable in any way to treat children like this? It is unbelievable that people who should know better, are behaving like douchebag Michael Savages just because they don't like the fact that Barbie is stealing Ken's whole act. Yes, me calling Palin "Barbie" was sexist, but so was calling Obama "Ken." If you're going to be a sexist pig, be an equal opportunity sexist pig. Just don't act like a hypocrite when you're trying to prove that someone else is a hypocrite. In my ideal world, neither pregnancy out of wedlock nor getting balanced and clinical information about reproduction and the implications of sexual activity, would be taboo. Unfortunately this is not Vas's World, so we need to work with what we have. (6 sweet emo dorks | desperate for love?) |

Welcome to the Machine - Where's the Coverage? This is the first mainstream press mention of Ron Paul's alternative convention that I have ever seen.I was really shocked last night when I found out about this event by looking at a lonely comment on Gino's blog. In the last couple of months or so, I've been relying on an abbreviated list RSS feeds for several news and commentary outlets, as well as radio, to make up for the fact that I haven't had time to read all of my email newspaper and mailing list subscriptions. I've been pretty much been erasing any email that wasn't work-related or a personal response. Unfortunately, this strategy for keeping up with current events left me woefully underinformed on pretty a major political event and I paid the price. This election, more than any other, has really made me aware of the power the press has to influence people's opinions at a time when it should remain impartial. Thankfully I am back to my normal media-obsessed ways, and I am going to find a way to improve my LJ strategy for keeping up on the news. When dealing with "overwhelming" media input, it is important to avoid sloughing off and taking shortcuts. Part of our responsibility as an informed electorate is to keep up with the news and examine it critically, even if it means seeking out the direct source or alternate venues. Thanks to the wakeup call last night, I will be keeping up with this event, while I simultaneously watch the RNC. PS: If you are a progressive hungry for real change, want a woman and a Black person in power, plus a Latin American presence, in power -- these two ladies might actually provide a real alternative to the Barbie and Ken bunch. With that, I leave you with a show of "unity" from the Democratic National Convention in Denver that you may have not seen on TV. I share this because no one would ever protest against the party of change. (See St Paul, you're not the only ones dealing a police state or rowdy protesters.)
C'mon guys, no one's said a peep as to why the pundits think that the Alaskan Independence Party is un-American. Could it be that the claim might not be true? (2 sweet emo dorks | desperate for love?) |

Writer's Block: Ramadan anyone? Part 2
I am not able to celebrate Ramadan because of my chosen profession as a professional sexy person and my lack of religion. Ramadan would be important to me if I were working at the Chicago Club this month. A lack of well-off French Muslim oil field workers, means less dough for in my pockets.

HOW THE CRAP DID I MISS THIS?!? Ron Paul's Convention? I didn't know this was going on! I've been doing NPR, C-Span, CNN and Fox radio this whole freaking month and I miss any mention of this event in the news outlets. How the hell is this possible? I should've checked C-Span 2. Ron Paul, seriously, get a better press relations team. I don't care that this event was already sold out, I should've known about it. How could I have missed something as major as a parallel convention? You folks need to see this! Seriously, It's Ron Paul's parallel convention speech. WOW! Just, wow! Brainpower trumps racist-endorsed nuttery. Nader better impress the hell out of me after this performance. YOU NEED TO WATCH THIS!I still like ruthlessly awesome Sarah Palin, but it seems her handlers are transforming her into something pseudo-Obama-ish anti-Obama that I am not sure I like. Gawd, that Guiliani speech is still hurting my head. I'm still waiting on hearing why the support of legally-executed determination for Alaskan territorial sovereignty is anti-American. Everyone is using this as a criticism, and I want to know why y'all think it's valid. The Boricua Injun awaits. Current Mood: confused (2 sweet emo dorks | desperate for love?) |

It's Barbie vs. Ken! This is the weirdest election ever, and from what I am seeing, it promises to be the funniest. I just listened to Sarah Palin's speech. WOW! She is seriously the anti-Obama, yet her delivery seems to be programmed with the same OS. After that speech, the "shocking secrets" are really going to start coming since it is obvious that she's got the soccer mom and redneck vote surrounded. Anyhew, here's my opinion of the Republican vs. Democrat battle at this point: That Really Old Guy and Halleluia Hockey Mom Barbie
vs.
Hope-Filled African-American Ken and That Other Really Old Guy Oh the material that flows from my dark little mind... By the way, nobody has yet answered my question about how being affiliated with an American Indian and Alaskan territory rights sovereignty group is supposed to be un-American. Anyone? Anyone? Okay Republicans Off It's decided, I cannot vote Republican. I still like Sarah Palin, but Joe Lieberman is a douchebag. I cannot believe that he addressed the RNC and praised McCain for being a lefty.
I am so fed up with this centrist bullsnot, The centrist ideals of sameness (not equality) are at the core of why the Union is collapsing. Homogenization not good in milk, it's not good for ecosystems and it's definitely not good when matters of critical thinking are involved.
As a society, we wanted everyone to be middle-of-the-road and non-offensive, and we are now getting what we wished for: Compromise governance by mediocre minds incapable of radical or reactionary thought.
My hatred for the Republicans embrace of sameness, doesn't mean I'm voting Democrat either.
Anyone who thinks that Obama is a progressive after picking Biden, is in for a very rude awakening this fall, since it looks like the media has decided that they're going to win. If you are worried about Palin failing to ban books in Alaska or bringing anti-intellectualism to schools, you should be even more worried about Biden's creation of the Drug Czar position. The government position is one of the biggest reasons why the Constitution is being dismantled. This is coming from a chick who has no love for illegal drug use. Is the blatantly unscientific consensus mentality and the end of dissention really our nature's future? It is. This is why law-enforcement came down like the holy plague on protesters at the DNC and RNC.
So it's down to Ron Paul and Ralph Nader again for me. Racist-endorsed nut or nanny-state socialist?
[edit] Am I the only person who thought that Palin's husband's previous support of an organization that pointed out the illegality of Alaska's statehood, was actually a good thing? I mean Alaska was pretty much forced into statehood against the will of the Amerindians and Alaskan settlers living there. Then again acknowledging the territorial sovereignty of American Indigenous groups is totally un-American, right? (desperate for love?) |

Writer's Block: Sarah Palin?
Like, who cares! She's a GILF, she kills fuzzy animals, she's Martha Stewart ruthless, she's not a racist asshole like Cheney Biden, and she will provide political satirists with years of mad lulz . I mean, check out the fictional blog penned in her name. It's totally right-wing like every blog I use to get my political information when I'm not listening to the conservative talk show hosts at NPR. 1. Saying that you support a long-term project that your predecesors approve of, shortly before you get into office, and then changing your mind when you actually become governor and realize what's really going on is not a "flip-flop." It's called a reality check. 2. If your friend is a druggie, and you get him thrown in jail for being destructive, it doesn't mean that you're abandoning him. This is called intervention and it shows that you actually care about him. Apply the same logic to Ted Stevens and what she did to him will make a hell of a lot more sense. 3. The support of non-essential medical infanticide and recognizing that women have the potential to accomplish as much as a men can, are not the same thing. If they were, support of vasectomy would mean that men have the potential to accomplish as much as women. 4. If I had to chose between an evolutionarily maladapted animal that is plentiful in captivity, and being able to provide fuel and livelihood for millions of people, many of them on the brink of being homeless/poor/hungry/without any means of vehicular transport and being dependent of an already overextended government/non-profit organizations, I'm not picking the bear. 5. If a state trooper were driving drunk and he made a death threat against my family member or ANY citizen not posing an imminent threat, you bet your fanny, I'd fire the Public Safety commissioner for not doing anything about it. I think Palin was too generous in offering the guy a transfer. 6. Gay rights, prohibition and stupid religious stunts are issues that I do worry about. My job is to decide whether they outweigh the benefits, especially when the Democrat and the Libertarian presidential candidates make similarly bad choices. 7. The whole Bristol baby thing is hysterical, especially after the Daily Kos hoax. 8. There are some issues that I am twitchy about with her, but I am going to wait and see. Then again, the wisdom McCain's choice is not just for me to decide. This is for all of us to decide at the voting booth. (desperate for love?) |

Un-tattoo U I am at the plastic surgeon's office at Midsota getting my initial tattoo removal consultation. Every procedure I discussed with Dr. Houle should go as I expect it to go, based on my research. There will be scarring on the excision site, which is okay because that's more traditional mark in Taino culture. The chest tattoo will have to be removed in a more gradual manner to lower the chance of hypopigmentation. In case that happens, specialized makeup should cover up the damage. When I quit modeling, I intend to get the traditional scar in that spot. I feel that I am one step closer toward being more true to my heritage and myself. This is huge for me. My very busy weekend! On Saturday, I had another free pass to the MN State Fair after doing surveys for the absolutely most ethical research firm I have ever worked for. It was a tiring job, but there was a few familiar faces in the crew, so it was decent. The boss was amazing. I could've worked Sunday too, but I had a gig at the American Idol concert, so I couldn't do it. Fortunately, Thom, my kind couch-surf host for Saturday night was able to take the gig instead, since he was planning to attend the Fair anyway. Ten hours of decent pay, for easy work and free tickets to the fair seemed to make him very happy. Being that he loves the heat, he was especially delighted by the job. :)
I visited with AJ on Sunday and was treated to her amazing homemade miso vegetable soup, in exchange for a bit of driving on my part. Homegrown cauliflower totally trumps the supermarket stuff. Afterwards I worked at the American Idol Concert. Although I am not at liberty to disclose the project, I can say that it was massively fun, easy and well-worth the compensation. I could've stayed to watch the whole concert, but the whole thing was too much like a high budget high school talent show/revue for me to get into it. People really watch that show on TV? The performers seemed very attractive and talented, but it seemed to lack something. Ted Nugent, Rob Zombie and Poison are my favorite concert performers, because in addition to delivering technical perfection for the most part, they improvise, come across as larger than life without being overwrought, have genuine fun even when they make mistakes and actually seem to be engaging the audience in a personal music conversation. The Idols really did seem like idols; out-of-reach, really serious and sticking to script even when a flub could've been a magic moment of spontaneity. I hope those young people do well in their careers, nonetheless. Perhaps someday, they will find that spark.
Today, I slept a lot, sent a few resumes and enjoyed my husband's company during his day off. He spoiled me rotten. This coming weekend, I am heading to Rochester, MN. I am hoping that I get two convention jobs in the Cities on Wednesday and Thursday. I really would love to do more convention work, and the way the schedule is set, I will actually have time to visit mom on Wednesday. I'll cross my fingers. Tomorrow, I'm planning to work on art, visit with the plastic surgeon for the tattoo removal orientation, visit Cicely for the eyebrows, and do a modeling gig at SCSU. I only have one more weekend to book this month, and I am satisfied with the amount of weekdays I have booked. I am seriously considering taking the rest of the month off to get ready for Fallcon. I will have a table there, after all. ;) (desperate for love?) |

Writer's Block: The Expendable Sense(s)
I suffered from drug-induced blindness before and it wasn't as bad as I'd expected. The world was nothing but a blob of washed out swirling color. There were no details or depth, just blobs. Using a ruler with raised numbers and with assistance in picking out pens and papers, I was able to draw and my lettering actually improved. I learned wire and bead sculpture. I would dictate my essays and have someone read the coursework aloud in order to finish my degree with honors. TV was phased out of my life. I got around by walking or taking public transport. I learned how to cook. I became more aware of my other senses. I could build (ugly-colored) websites as long as I asked people how they looked. Books on tape kept me entertained. I was super clumsy and my clothing choices made no sense. The only people who knew I was blind was my ex-husband and my professors. I didn't bother with the eye doctor because of expense. Writer's Block: Checklist for Eternity
I would hate to live forever. Space travel doesn't really appeal to me. Outliving planet earth and getting toasted by our sun as it goes nova sounds like a crappy deal. If I survive that tan, floating around in the void for eons, hoping that the gravitational pull of a boring brown dwarf doesn't grab me before some exotic galaxy with an inhabited planet does. Then again, it might get cool to be sucked up by a black hole just to see what happens. At that point, finding ways to die might be a priority for me. (2 sweet emo dorks | desperate for love?) |

WOW! Mom and I agree on politics for once. Sarah Palin has saved the election for my reactionary me and my Hilary Clinton-supporting mom. We both have agreed that we're not really voting for McCain, because he sucks. We're actually casting our vote for First female governor of Alaska, gun-totting, proto-feminist, pork-barrel-hating, corruption-busting, interracially married mommy who happens to be a 80% approval garnering, oil company AND enviromentalist confusing, wilderness Basketball Jones child who has been involved in politics for over a decade and has enough sense to be a pro-contraception pro-lifer who is totally cool with disabled people. In short, she's my kind of gal. As far as we're concerned, her main qualification for being the leader of America is the fact that she's a model. Models can do anything, and she'll probably outlive McCain. I am so glad I don't have to vote for Ron Paul, I can hardly stand it. YAY! Speaking of models doing anything: - Rendered Catnose and submitted it to Lemmecheck.
- Updated Rasputin Catamite.
- I ran errands like mad.
- Got a nap in.
- Got a ton of modeling bookings finalized and ready to go.
- Got my hotel reservations set-up for Rochester.
- Sent more applications to agencies and inquiries for new clients.
- Visited with mom on the phone and hung out with Barb.
